What is a short term rental ban?

Internet giants such HomeAway.com and Craigslist have contributed greatly to the every growing popularity of short-term rentals across the US and other parts of the world. As this new popularity grew so did the public visibility of Short term rentals. At this time many conflicts arose in various cities between mostly regarding owner’s property rights. Many cities set out to ‘ban’ short term rentals all together. While some cities were successful in their short term rental ban other cities implemented new laws and ordinances that would severely restricted existing short term rentals.

This short term rental ban was most evident in the South Florida area where many municipalities such as the City of Miami Beach, Surfside, Bal Harbour, Key Biscayne and North Miami Beach. Some areas passed new laws that prohibit the short term rentals of homes and condos.
